Can D-Aspartic Acid Boost Testosterone?

One of the most popular ways for this to happen is to use a dietary supplement that claims that boosts the levels of testosterone. Oftentimes, theseproducts will most of the time contain D-Aspartic Acid, which is a type of amino acid.

What is D-Aspartic Acid?
Molecules that help with multiple body functions are called amino acids. They are often called the building blocks of the body as they deal with neurotransmitters, certain types of hormones, and proteins.
Almost all amino acids will happen in two different forms. For instance, you can find aspartic acid as either D-Aspartic Acid or L-Aspartic Acid. The forms are the same type of chemical formula, but the structures mirror each other. The D- and L- forms of amino acids are often considered the right-handed and left-handed molecule.
D-aspartic acid is not used to build proteins, but it makes and releases hormones in your body. L-aspartic acid is produced in nature and your body and creates proteins. D-aspartic acid may increase hormones being released in your brain that increase testosterone production. It also increases the production of the hormone and the release of it in your testicles. Because of these functions, D-aspartic acid is so popular when it comes to supplements that boost testosterone.

This study reports the beneficial effects of taking 2.6 grams each day for 90 days on sperm quality and quantity.
The average dosage of D-aspartic acid is 3 grams each day. However, some studies have used this amount that shows mixed results. Based on the available research, the higher dosage of 6 grams each day does not appear effective.
Safety and Side Effects
In a study on taking 2.6 grams of D-aspartic acid daily for 90 days, researchers conducted in-depth blood tests to check whether any adverse side effects occurred. They found no safety hazards and concluded that this supplement is safe to consume for at least 90 days.
However, another study showed that 2 out of 10 men who were taking D-aspartic acid reported nervousness, headaches, and irritability. However, a man in the placebo group also reported these effects.
Many studies on D-aspartic acid supplements have not reported whether side effects have occurred. Therefore, more research may be needed to confirm its safety.
There is limited information about any potential side effects. There was a study that was done stated that there were no safety concerns after a blood analysis after 90 days of using the supplement, but another study had reported subjective side effects.
Fertility May Be Increased with D-Aspartic Acid
Even though there is limited research, D-aspartic acid has shown to help men who are dealing with infertility.
A study was done with 60 men experiencing infertility, and it showed that taking D-aspartic acid supplements for three months can significantly increase the number of sperm they produce. Moreover, the motility or motility of sperm has been improved. These improvements in sperm quantity and quality seem to have paid off. During the study period, the pregnancy rate of male partners increased after taking D-aspartic acid. In fact, in this study, 27% of partners became pregnant.
Although many studies on D-aspartic acid have focused on men due to its effects on testosterone, it may also play a role in female ovulation.
Even though there is a need for more research, D-aspartic acid could improve the quality and quantity of sperm in those dealing with infertility.
No Improvement to Responses to Exercise
There are multiple studies that have looked into whether D-aspartic acid is able to improve exercise response, especially when it comes to weight training. There are some that believe it can increase the strength of muscle gains because of the elevated testosterone levels. But, there are studies that have pointed out that men who are going throughweight training did not increase muscle mass, strength, or testosteroneafter taking D-aspartic acid supplements.
A study found that when men received D-aspartic acid training and received 28 days of weight training, their lean body mass increased by 2.9 pounds. However, patients in the placebo group gained 3 pounds. Moreover, the muscle strength of the two groups had similar increases. Therefore, in this study, the effect of D-aspartic acid was no better than placebo.
Both studies have found that D-aspartic acid is not seen to be effective during weight training to increase the strength of muscle mass. There is no information available about combining other forms of exercise with these supplements.
There is no improvement in muscle or strength gains whenever mixed with weight training. There is not any information available about the effects of D-aspartic acid with other exercise forms.
Effects on Testosterone
Studies on the levels of testosterone after taking D-aspartic acid have varied. There are some studies that show an increase in levels, while others have not.
A study of obese and overweight men taking D-aspartic acid for 28 days reported mixed results. Some men have no increase in testosterone. However, people with low testosterone levels increased more than 20% at the beginning of the study.
Another study looked at the effects of taking these supplements for over a month. Researchers found that when men aged 27-43 took D-aspartic acid supplements for 90 days, testosterone increased by 30-60%.
These studies did not specifically target the physical activity population. However, three other studies did examine the effects of D-aspartic acid on active men. An adult man who had performed weight training and took D-aspartic acid for 28 days did not increase his testosterone levels. More importantly, another study found that taking 6 grams of high-dose supplements a day for two weeks reduced testosterone levels in young people who had received weight training. However, a 3-month follow-up study using 6 grams per day showed that there was no change in testosterone.
Men with low testosterone or inactive men may increase their testosterone with D-aspartic acid. However, it has not been shown to boost testosterone in those who are weight training.
Many people are looking for natural ways to increase testosterone.There are a few studies that show young to middle-aged men taking 3 grams each day of D-aspartic acid may increase levels of testosterone. Yet, some other studies done on active men have failed to increasestrength,testosterone, or muscle mass.There is evidence that D-aspartic acid can improve the quantity and quality of sperm in men with fertility problems.Although it can be consumed safely for up to 90 days, safety information is limited.In general, more research is needed before D-aspartic acid is strongly recommended to boost testosterone.
